![]() The video game used was footage from Battlefield 2042. The benchmark tool compares video quality to uncompressed video and is tested at 3.5MBps, 6MBps, and 8MBps. The YouTuber used Netflix’s VMAF benchmark tool which allows the user to analyze video quality (the best quality of video imaginable) with a scoring of 0 (which would be considered impossible to watch). Testing included AMD’s AMF, Intel’s Quick Sync, NVIDIA NVENC, and software options available in streaming packages, such as the streaming software OBS. In the video above, EposVox puts up Intel’s AV1 encoder and tests the technology against several H.264 encoders. However, hardware that can properly accelerate AV1 encoding has never been developed, except for Intel’s recent Arc graphics cards. With software support, the system’s processor can use the AV1 codec. AV1 produces a lower file size than the H.264 format, which provides a much larger compression capacity. The format is revolutionary and free in principle, making it more accessible for users to access via the Internet. Intel’s AV1 video encoding was initially developed by the Alliance for Open Media in 2015 as a royalty-free open-source video coding format. Many of the videos viewed daily on YouTube have adopted the new AV1 encoding, especially in development over the past few years. The YouTuber found that the AV1 is highly efficient for video streams generating low bit rates.
